hoboethics

Over the past few years, there has been a quiet revolution in the way people drink and make beer. Small brewers working with enthusiasm and great ingredients and without the constraints of large corporations are producing delicious beers once again.

We are part of that movement. Our aim is simple; Inspired by brewing styles both old and new, to make great beer, using the best ingredients.

Spring water

We brew at Gun Hill, on a beautiful 140 acre organic mixed farm in the Sussex Weald. The farm has a history of hop growing and some survive to this day in the hedgerows.

It’s a lovely place to be and a lovely place to brew.

In making our beer we aim to tread lightly on our surroundings. We generate much of our own power from a 15kw solar array; heating from a wood powered boiler and our spent grains keep the local livestock happy.

All the water used for brewing comes from our own spring source deep below the organically farmed land. The water is microfiltered and UV treated to ensure its purity without the need for chemicals. It’s delicious and great for brewing.

The logo

What’s with the logo?

Its an old hobo sign that means Man With Gun Lives Here. A hobo was simply a migratory laborer: he may have taken some longish holidays but sooner or later he returned to work. To help cope with its uncertainties, hobos developed a system of signs, which they would chalk on walls to provide directions, information and warnings to others.

But fear not, our beer won’t force you to raise your hands any higher than your lips.

Our Beer

SMALL BATCHES, BIG TASTES

Our core range listed below is available all year round

All our beers are unfined* which means they are naturally hazy and suitable for vegetarians and in most cases vegans too.

* Beer is naturally hazy. Traditionally, to help clear the beer quickly, cask ales have a fining agent added to them. Believe it or not this agent is made from the swim bladders of fish (yep. fish.). We think that adding fish swim bladders to our beers isn’t the way to go.

PARABELLUM MILK STOUT
Small batch brewing

Unfined, but contains lactose sugar, so OK for vegetarians, but not for vegans.

Available in Cask, KeyKeg30 and 330ml Bottles.
